Brilliant!
My boyfriend is a GEEEEEEEENIUS!!!!
The frozen hard drive ACTUALLY WORKED! Too well, actually.
So he sealed it in a ziplock back and stuck it in the freezer for about a half hour. Then tried hooking it up to his desktop computer. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
Oh well, we expected it, weren't holding our breaths, yada yada yada.
So just on a whim, he sticks the drive back into my laptop and tries a boot up.
Worked! Panicky, because we don't know how long we've got, he tries to move my whole profile over the network to the crappy Gateway. Taking too long! The drive could go at any minute! I've got 2GB of music on there that is already backed up! So we cancel that and just transfer my documents, sans my music. Done.
Laptop still working.
So he tries to move the whole drive over to his fancy new desktop. Nope. Too many errors.
But...the laptop is still working. For how long, we don't know. He's taking it back to CompUSA today. Hopefully he can convince them that my hard drive is a LOOSE CANNON and could go off at any moment, so PLEASE OH PLEASE give me a new one!
But let me sing some more the praises of Kevin, who brought hope when hope had died, the GEEENIUS who saved my data: the pictures, the lab website still in development...um...probably some downloaded free porn...
